Deeds Brewing in Melbourne enters voluntary administration

An award-winning craft brewery in Melbourne is on the brink of collapse as the latest in Australia’s craft brewing scene to enter voluntary administration.

Deeds Brewing in Glen Iris entered voluntary administration this week, appointing administrators for its Deeds Group, Deeds Taproom, Deeds Brewing Company and Future Proof Distilling businesses.

The company employs about 50 staff, whose jobs are in jeopardy as administrators look to sell or restructure the business.

Deloitte’s David Orr and Glen Kanevsky have been appointed joint administrators and are currently reviewing the business.

Business is continuing as usual at this stage, with the taproom remaining open.

“It’s very early days in this process as we take over management of the business and commence a review of its financial position,” Kanevsky told 7NEWS.com.au.

“For now, it is a case of business as usual and continuing to trade while we explore urgent sale or recapitalisation options.”

The independent brewery opened in 2012 when university friends Patrick Ale and David Milstein decided to swap out their drinks distribution business to chase their dream of owning their own brewery.
